Windows and Buffers

EVE allows you to edit multiple files at the same time:

• You can simultaneously display two files in separate windows.
• It is possible to display up to eleven files but for practical purposes two or three are normal.

A window displays a buffer.

• The buffer's name is shown on the bottom line of the window.
• A buffer usually holds a file.
• Normally, a buffer has the same name as the file is holds.
• Many buffers can be open during an EVE session.

When you enter EVE a single window is opened:

• This displays a buffer holding the file specified in the EVE command.
• If a file is not specified in the EVE command, a buffer called MAIN is opened that has no associated file.
• In this case, it is easiest to QUIT and re-enter EVE specifying a file.
